Definition Post - Depth

Definition of "Depth" - the distance from the top or surface to the bottom of something.

Adjectives to describe and/or relate to the word "Depth" - 3D, 2D, Dimensions, Objects, Deep, Shallow, Illusion, Appear, Representation, Optical Illusion, Surface, Distance, Long, Short, Narrow, Background, Foreground, Perspective.

I have chosen the next four images shown, from the internet, to represent depth. I chose these photos because they display the idea that depth can be shown within a surface of an object, nature, a place etc. Which is showing a variety of how depth can be photographed. The first image is of a row of bowling balls, in this image, we are able to see that the row of the balls becomes narrower towards the background of the image, compared to the foreground. This concept is displayed throughout all of the photos that I have selected. The second photograph shows a bridge getting narrower, so the gap at the end of the bridge appears smaller than what it actually is. Again, the same is happening in the third image, except this photo has been taken of train tracks and a bridge. Finally, the last photograph is of a tree. This photo is slightly different than the others as it has been taken upwards, which shows the height of the tree. The same affect has occurred with the height of the tree, as it has with the length of the objects and places in the other three photos. The concept of objects, places, nature etc, becoming narrower the further back you look, is an optical illusion because the photograph has made it seem that way, except the object further back will always be the same size compared to the one closest etc., the angle that the photo has been taken makes us see something that's not actually there.

My own definition of Depth - The extent to which an object or place appears narrower or smaller the further away it is, showing either it's length, height or width.
