Image Bank - Depth

Internet Images

In the photo above we are able to see how the field appears narrower and smaller, the further away from the camera it is. Also, we can also see that the hay stacks appear smaller in the distance as well, in comparison to the one up close. This is because there is depth captured in the image, we are able to see the objects further away as smaller, because of the depth which creates this perception.

From the perspective of this image, we are able to see that the apple gets smaller, the further back it is placed in the image. This is due to the depth of the photograph, which creates the perception that the apple is shrinking the further away it is from the camera. Also, as the apples are placed further into the background, they are blurred because the camera is focused on the first apple in line, showing that the more blurred the apple is, the further away it is.

It is evident that this photo has been taken from below, to show the height and width of the trees. This photo represents depth because we are able to see that the trees look like they are getting thinner as they get higher, and further away from the camera lens. This angle also makes the trees look extremely tall in comparison to the man in the image.

Again, like the images before, the road in this photograph looks narrower in the background, than what it actually is in the foreground, this is due to the perplexed angle that has been used in order to take the image, as well as the depth within the photograph. The depth also emphasises the length of the road, and makes it look as though the road continues forever.

The majority of the images that I have selected have been taken outside, whereas this one is of a hallway in a building. I chose this photo because I wanted a variation of photos which displayed depth through different places and objects etc. This photograph shows that depth can be shown from inside a building as well as outside of it. In this image we are able to see that the ceiling, walls, floor and the gap at the end all appear smaller/narrower as they get further away into the distance from the camera.

Lastly, I decided to use this image because it shows depth in a different way. This photo has been taken from one end of a bench, and shows that the length of the bench becomes narrower, the further away it is from the camera, so one end looks a lot thinner than the other end, which is closest to the camera. Each plank of wood that makes up the bench looks fairly separated nearer the camera, but as that end of the bench is further away, the gaps between the planks also get smaller.
