Definition Post - Pattern

Definition of "Pattern" - A repeated decorative design.

Adjectives to describe and/or relate to the word "Pattern" - Repetition, Shape, Design, Decorative, Chequered, Chronological, Even, Floral, Spotted, Striped, Tartan, Natural, Artificial, Clothing, Wallpaper, Wrapping Paper, Occurrence, Diagonal, Ongoing, Consistent, Colour, Objects.

These are the four images that I have chosen from the internet to portray pattern. I have selected two photos to represent artificial pattern, and two for natural pattern. This is because some patterns are man-made, whereas others, naturally occur. The first image is of a men's formal shirt, which has a floral pattern printed on it. Clearly, I have chosen this photo because the pattern stands out and we are able to see that the design of the pattern is repeated blue roses. The second artificial pattern photo I have chosen is of a dining room, with pattern printed wallpaper. Like before, this pattern is extremely noticeable, particularly because of the bright colours. This image is obviously displaying the concept of pattern as it is the first thing that we are aware of. For my first natural pattern photograph, I decided to use this one of a spiders web, this is because there is an evident consistent pattern within the web which obviously, the spider has created itself. As the image is so close up, we are able to see each individual strand of the web and it's repetitive pattern. Lastly, I decided to use this photo of zebras. This is because, although the spider's web image displays the natural aspect of pattern, in all three of the photos that I have chosen, the pattern has been created. Whereas in this photo, the pattern of the zebra's print hasn't been made by anyone or anything as they are just born with it. So this pattern is truly natural. The animal print has also been repeated throughout it's species.

Artificial

Natural

My own definition of Pattern - A design or shape that has been consistently repeated, either naturally or artificially.
