Definition Post - Texture

Definition of "Texture" - the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance.

Adjectives to describe and/or relate to the word "Texture" - Dry, Bumpy, Rough, Soft, Smooth, Fluffy, Hairy, Furry, Hard, Rubbery, Bubbly, Thick, Prickly, Pebbly, Silky, Woolly, Slimy, Spongy, Sticky, Tender, Thin, Warm, Cold, Wet, Lacy, Ridged, 3D, 2D, Carved, Natural, Artificial, Holes, Leather, Material, Felt, Cracked, Light, Frothy.

The photos below all represent the idea of texture, which I have chosen from the internet. The first image is an extreme close-up of a tree that has been cut down, so we are able to see the cracks and ridges in the wood of the bark. Which triggers our sense of touch, and reminds us of the texture of tree bark. Next, I decided to include another extreme close-up, but this time of some leather. We are able to see the texture of the leather due to the folding in it and the way it looks all together. Thirdly, this image is of some rope. This photo evidently portrays the concept of texture because we are able to see the fraying of the rope, which reminds us of the rough and wire-like texture of it. Lastly, this photo is slightly different to the others, as it is of some snow. I chose this image because obviously, the connotations of soft and light are associated with snow, which is what we think of when describing it, and when looking at this photo. However, there are foot steps in the snow in the photograph, which intensify the idea of these textural references. When choosing these images, I wanted an equal variety of both natural and artificial, as texture can be displayed in many ways.

My own definition of Texture - the indication of how a surface, object or substance feels, looks and/or tastes.
